NHPR: The Exchange Radio Broadcast

During the lead up to the transplant surgery, I would scour the internet for others in similar situations, read the story, and then the information would trail off following surgery. I would wonder: ‘What happened?’ Based on our experiences, they likely are back to living healthy ‘normal’ lives. It’s been a while since our last post, and we will start posting some of our organ donation outreach activities here.

On Thursday, Logan was on New Hampshire Public Radio with my long time doctor, Dr. Gordon, and Alexandra Glazier, President and CEO of New England Donor Services. You can listen to the tape of the live broadcast here: http://nhpr.org/post/organ-donation-new-developments-common-misconceptions-and-ever-present-need. The emails and call-in questions were excellent, and caused some very good and thoughtful discussions!

Work Stuff

I have fun making logos for these theme shows.

I have fun making logos for these theme shows.

Every once in a while, we put together a theme show on Word of Mouth. The latest one was the brain child of our senior producer and it’s all about walking. She did an amazing job putting it together, and I think it’s a top notch episode of the show. We also thought it was a good opportunity to make a video promo. I’ve been learning how to use Adobe Premiere at work to edit video and used this as an opportunity to practice using the program. I typically use iMovie when I make my silly videos, and while it’s an easy program that produces solid results, Premiere is definitely a step up for me. I am definitely still learning, but this was a fun opportunity to try a few things I’ve learned in our training sessions. Special thanks to Jim & Sandi for sharing some of their personal GoPro footage, and to Derek for showing up multiple times. He is the star of all my favorite B roll footage.

Here’s a link to the show if you’d like to listen:

Star Struck

This week I had the privilege of speaking to John C. Reilly on the telephone. We interviewed him for the show because he is currently on tour and stopping by Somerville, MA with his band: John Reilly and Friends. Usually we call the guests, but when we have big time celebrities, they call us. I had to sit by the phone in the studio waiting for the phone to ring. I did jumping jacks and paced while I waited.

My usual thing is to ask guests their name, their occupation and what they had for breakfast in order to check their sound levels. I asked John what he had, he told me, and then I pressed him a bit. “But what would you REALLY like for breakfast? If you could have anything you want.” There was a long pause and I panicked, but then he said, “Wait. Is this still just for the sound check?” I told him it was mostly for the sound check, but also because I was really curious. He finally said, “I guess I really just like protein for breakfast.”

Taylor did a lovely job interviewing him and you can listen to it at this link.

An Eternal Quality: John Reilly and Friends

They also recently did a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR headquarters and it was really lovely.

After the interview, Taylor asked if there was anything else we should ask and I got back on the line and said, “Well he never really answered my question about what his dream breakfast is.” He laughed and said, “I gotta say, that’s the most intimate question you guys asked.” Logan Shannon: Asking the hard hitting breakfast questions since 2013.
