Star Struck

This week I had the privilege of speaking to John C. Reilly on the telephone. We interviewed him for the show because he is currently on tour and stopping by Somerville, MA with his band: John Reilly and Friends. Usually we call the guests, but when we have big time celebrities, they call us. I had to sit by the phone in the studio waiting for the phone to ring. I did jumping jacks and paced while I waited.

My usual thing is to ask guests their name, their occupation and what they had for breakfast in order to check their sound levels. I asked John what he had, he told me, and then I pressed him a bit. “But what would you REALLY like for breakfast? If you could have anything you want.” There was a long pause and I panicked, but then he said, “Wait. Is this still just for the sound check?” I told him it was mostly for the sound check, but also because I was really curious. He finally said, “I guess I really just like protein for breakfast.”

Taylor did a lovely job interviewing him and you can listen to it at this link.

An Eternal Quality: John Reilly and Friends

They also recently did a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR headquarters and it was really lovely.

After the interview, Taylor asked if there was anything else we should ask and I got back on the line and said, “Well he never really answered my question about what his dream breakfast is.” He laughed and said, “I gotta say, that’s the most intimate question you guys asked.” Logan Shannon: Asking the hard hitting breakfast questions since 2013.

  1. John C. Reilly… I had to check the link before I realized WHO he was – then realized he’s one of my favorite actors based primarily on the characters he’s played. Amazing to see/read that he’s also musically talented. Thanks for sharing!

  2. My dream breakfast is corned beef hash, home fries, eggs and a piece of wheat toast with strawberry jam. That’s right two types of potatoes. I’m really healthy.
